DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
I. Review Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 topics/concepts. Read the outline, add supplemental notes, create study note cards. LEARN THE MATERIAL...DON'T MEMORIZE IT.
*NOTE: Please review your Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, AND 6 material periodically. We are never 'done' with the chapter topics/concepts.
II. Study chapter vocabulary. In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [JV1]
III. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
IV. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to have adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS
I. Obtain one (1) recent news article. This article must be recent (i.e. no older than 5 days). It must be clipped...PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE CLASS; WHOLE PAGES WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT.

2. Recent articles ONLY!!! (Date range: 4/12 to 4/16)
3. DUE NEXT CLASS MEETING
II. Review the reviewed style rules (abbreviations, numbers, titles, etc.) before attending class on Monday...we will complete a few style quizzes during class. BE PREPARED!!! DUE NEXT CLASS MEETING
III. Complete the Community Topic Forum Response (see blog post). DEADLINE 4/16/07
*NOTE: If you are aware that your classmates have not completed this assignment, please use a little altruism and inform them that time is steadily running out!!!
IV. Begin the PLANNING phase of your news story assignment. Consult pages 508-510 in your text book for assistance. Please make sure that you have evidence of story planning on Monday.
Also, feel free to use any planning strategy that you feel will help you get started. You may want to create an outline of your story. Use the Parts of a Story handout for assistance. You may type the outline (or evidence of planning) if you wish.
Prepare to work on the REPORTING and DRAFTING phases of the assignment on Monday; this means, please bring your steno pads, tape recorders, USB flash drives, blank diskettes to class so that you may utilize class time to work on your piece.
V. Work on arranging your notebook...there is a 50% chance of a notebook check in the forecast. DEADLINE TBA
