TOPIC: The Force of Change
BACKGROUND INFO: In the past 10 years Americans have witnessed a number of school related acts of violent. It has been proven by sociologists and behaviorialists that most of the acts could have been prevented if the warning signs had been recognized. In most cases, according to these scholars, the perpetrators of these violent acts either warn or threaten their peers and/or teachers before they commit them.

Unfortunetly, or at least in most cases i would have to disagree when psychologists say in most situations the predator warns the victim of the violence, in many cases its very true and in many cases its not, because its usually heat of the moment violence that takes place. Even though this is only my 2nd year at stanton, ive never seen a fight break out and i think thats due to the student bodys awareness of the importance of keeping violence out of our school and avoiding it at all causes. I would have to disagree with the old rhyme "sticks and stones may break my bones because words will never hurt me" because i think words can be far worse than a punch in some situations.

Students have an important part of maintaining a safe environment because it would show that they are responsible. Parents should also be aware of their children's actions, not only because their the guardians, but because the public can see the children's actions and can have an affect on how people see them. It is my first year at Stanton and so far, I am highly doubting any fights will spring up, considering the fact that the people in our school are disciplined.

Students play a huge role in school safety because they are the only ones truly "in tune" with the school. Teachers and officers only know so much of what is going on, but students hear things all the time, and it is their responsibility to report anything they hear that could be potentially dangerous. Students can also control whether or not they provoke violence in school.

Majority of students in school play a role in maintaining a safe enviroment in school by being informed about what's going on at school, and if anthing suspicious goes on, they know to inform an adult. In other cases students like to be informed about what's going on, but they don't always like to tell, because they don't want to be labled a 'snitch'. I agree with what sociologists and behaviorialists say, but i also disagree, because sometimes fights just break out when one person says or does the wrong thing. Parents, faculty and staff also play an important role in maintaining a safe enviroment at school by noticing what are going on at home and school. The safety at Stanton is excellent, because there's always a security guard or staff memeber walking around noticing things, and social wise, everbodies doin it!

I really don't agree that predators threaten students or teachers before they do something to hurt them. Usually, they just go for it. Parents shouldn't encourage violence. I know many parents do things that make violence seem "right" but it's not. The students should be able to control themselves and learn how to not act out. People have to be aware of what is happening around the school . Teachers and officers should pay more attention to the things that could cause problems in the school.

Students are the key ingredient to a safe school. Without the cooperation of students, school safety is not possible. Students need to realize that it is their responsibility to behave the way they should, and to follow school guidelines appropriately. Parents are also responsible for this - their children should be models of their behavior. If parents are negligent in their actions while raising children, then the children will end up with the same behavioral problems. The media shows how violence is affecting school. It allows people to see examples of school violence, and certainly causes them to want to prevent those violent acts from happening in their own school.

Students can help to maintain a safe environment in many ways. They play an essential way to make sure no one gets hurt in case of an emergency. As in many drills we as students have been taught if we just follow the guidelines and remember to stay calm then things should turn out okay. Another way i feel students can help is by warning if any threats are heard of or to tell an authority figure. Like in last years Stanton scare; even though the warning came out in the wrong way it still prevented any harm if there was going to be any.

Obviousley students are the key factor in school violence because they are the ones commiting it or suffering it. There are countless things that could affect kids to turn to violence or not but it all comes down to their own values and choices. Parents can teach nonviolence and administators can punish violence as much as they want but that will not end it all completely. The students have to actually realize the benefits of nonviolence.

First of all, there is usually a rational reason for school voilence and killings. These reasons maybe the sum of countless amount of ridicule or by the influence of others. We as the student body should be selective in what we do and what we say. We should also bring comfort to one another, but as i know this is very hard to come to. The students should also warn faculties when seeing sign of bullying and forecoming of voilence. Parents should also not totally exclude themselves from their child's life nor eniterly be in it. Parents should be alert of behaviour patterns and be with open arms to their children.

The school environment may not be the safest but I have to disagree with this article. This is because the bully may never give any signs of wanting to fight a specific person. In most cases wich I have wittnesed it was a spur of the moment thing and they just decided they were going to fight. The media may cause this because in many movies it portrays violence like it is normal and okay. Many may think violence is worse than being taunted or picked on but I would much rather get hit then be made fun of.
