WRITING ASSIGNMENT (Assignment #4, Page 149)

SPECIFIC TYPING CRITERIA: When I evaluate your work, I will be looking for substantial compliance of the following:

• Writing must be AT LEAST ONE PAGE, including no LESS than 500 words (may exceed to 700 only) in the body.
• Use this SLUG heading in the upper right hand corner: ASSIGNMENT #4 (P. 149) (-2)
• Include a Byline in the upper right hand corner. (-2)
• Include the Copy # in the upper right hand corner. (-2)
• Writing must be DOUBLE SPACED (automatic penalty of -15 if you submit a single spaced paper).
• Times New Roman or Ariel ONLY!!!!! 12 point font ONLY!!!!! Margins should be 0.5” all around (i.e. Top, Bottom, Left, and Right). (-5 if not followed)
• Open with your assertion; please express clearly, probably in the first sentence. (-2 if not present)
• The overall gist (meaning) or the main idea should be clear and concise. It should be clearly stated near the beginning of the essay and IT MUST BE UNDERLINED. (-2)
• Write only in the present tense…THIS IS HIGHLY CRITICAL. (-2)
• Indicate knowledge of the subject.
• Follow an organizational plan that best attracts the reader’s attention.
• Follow the Assertion-Evidence-Commentary style of writing (see me if unclear). (-5 if not followed)
• Must provide evidence from the On Display article (i.e. the student leads) in your work. (-5 if not followed)
• STIFF PENALTIES FOR SIMPLE GRAMMAR MISTAKES…PLEASE PROOFREAD YOUR WORK (-5 for sentence structure errors, -3 for grammatical errors, and -2 for spelling errors)
• PROOFREAD YOUR PAPER AND CORRECT YOUR ERRORS… I AM NOT YOUR ROOFREADER!!!!
• Your paper must adhere to the Essay Commentary Codes for this course (see handout)
• Stick to the assigned main idea and purpose of this assignment. Do not include any extraneous information that is not relevant to the topic of your response. If you deviate from the assignment I will deduct points.
• Paper must be AT LEAST ONE FULL PAGE, including no LESS than 500 WORDS in the body. You may exceed one page, but not go over two. (automatic penalty of -15 if you submit a paper less than what is required).
• Your name and honor code MUST be written on the back of the last page only. If your name and honor do not appear on the back you will lose points. (-10 if not present)
• Your paper must have THIS SHEET attached to the front. If you do not use the rubric you will not know how to earn an A paper. PLEASE CONSULT THE RUBRIC SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR AND EXPECTING. (-5 if not present)
