TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS*

I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!

II. Obtain one (1) recent news article. This article must be recent (i.e. no older than 3 days). It must be clipped...PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE CLASS; UNCLIPPED ARTICLES WILL RECEIVE -2 PENALTY. NO MAGAZINE ARTICLES.

III. Read and review the Course Curriculum and the Course Orientation Notes materials; there will be a quiz on this information. PLEASE STUDY!

IV. Familiarize yourself with current events (from 10/3/10 to 10/8/10); your next GRADED Current Events Quiz (CEQ) will be administered SOON. Use the blog site as a central hub for news and information! CEQ#7 is 10/18/10

V. Review Chapter 2 (Meeting Ethical and Legal Responsibilities) and Chapter 1 (Looking Back)notes and outlines; you should prepare for the QUARTER EXAM. TEST is 10/20/10

VI. Review the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Code of Ethics; prepare for the continuation of the Open Forum on 10/18/10

VII. Review the Stephen Glass related articles and your notes collected during the viewing the film 'Shattered Glass.' Prepare to receive the pre-writing outline assignment.

IX. Read and review the Hazelwood Supreme Court Case Study Packet. YOU ARE NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS INFORMATION. Annotating it would help you temendously. DUE ASAP
X. Obtain an Associated Press (AP) Style Book (any edition). DUE 10/22/10

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS*

I. Review Chapter 1 AND 2 topics/concepts. Read the outline, supplemental notes, and create study note cards. LEARN THE MATERIAL...DON'T MEMORIZE IT.*

II. Study chapter vocabulary. In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [JV1]

III. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, steno pads, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
