1. ARTICLE TYPE: GENERAL INTEREST
2. ARTICLE BEAT ASSIGNMENTS (for Week #18): as discussed in class

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS* 

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.
 

 I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1! 

II. Complete Activity 3.5; write short commentary for each of the items explaining the reasoning for selecting the element of news or rejecting the story. Make sure the commentary is detailed and well supported. Commentary work can be written on notebook paper and attached to the back of the Activity 3.5 sheet. DUE 11/8/11

III. Prepare for the Open Forum for Activity 3.5. Please prepare to participate. Rubrics will be distributed tomorrow.

Obtain one (1) recent news article. This article must be recent (i.e. no older than 3 days). It must be clipped...PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE CLASS; ARTICLES NOT LABELED OR POSTED NEATLY WILL RECEIVE A -2 PENALTY. NO OPINION PIECES OR MAGAZINE ARTICLES.

Assignment Specs:

1. ARTICLE TYPE: GENERAL INTEREST
2. ARTICLE BEAT ASSIGNMENTS (for Week #12): as discussed in class
3. ARTICLE NEWS ELEMENT: Label each article with the elements of news represented in the article...there should be more elements than TIMELINESS.

4. DATE RANGE: 11/6 to 11/8 (i.e. recent articles ONLY!!!)
5. SOURCE: Student choice (Source and Date of Publishing MUST be included on page)

V. Familiarize yourself with Week 11 current events; a GRADED Current Events Quiz (CEQ) will be administered SOON. Use the blog site as a central hub for news and information! CEQ#12 is NEXT WEEK (11/14/11).

II. Study chapter vocabulary. In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. III. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, steno pads, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
