Students will view the PBS documentary ‘JFK: Breaking the News’ and analyze the ways in which both print and broadcast (radio and television) covered the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Students will address the following through analysis, evidence, and commentary:



a.            Which form of media was most effective in its coverage?

b.            What is the historical significance of the media’s role as it covered this event?

c.            What were your general thoughts and impressions of the event (and documentary)?

Students will view the documentary ‘9/11’ and analyze the ways in which the filmmakers covered the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Students will address the following through analysis, evidence, and commentary:

b.            What is the historical significance of the media’s role as it covered this event?
c.            Were the filmmakers effective in their coverage and documentation of the event?

VI. Work on your Group Project (Chapter 1 Concepts); research your selected topic for discussion. Both you and your partner should feel comfortable discussing the topic for at least 20 minutes.

II. Study chapter vocabulary. In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [JV1]

III. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, steno pads, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

IV. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.
