HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (3/24/14)

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS* 

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Obtain TWO recent news articles. These articles must be recent (i.e. no older than 3 days). It must be clipped...PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE CLASS; ARTICLES NOT LABELED OR POSTED NEATLY WILL RECEIVE A -5 PENALTY. NO OPINION PIECES OR MAGAZINE ARTICLES.

II. Check www.scpjournalism1.blogspot.com daily for posted AP news stories. DUE DAILY

Review ALL skills concepts (e.g. recognition of elements of news, use of news judgment to evaluate stories, the process of brainstorming), as well as Chapter 4 concepts (e.g. types of sources and the Devil’s Advocate organizational structure). Prepare for informal skills and knowledge assessments.

IV. Gather additional research material for your Time Tracks Interview Subject.

V. Upload your DETAILED story plan for the Issue #4 Script story to www.turnitin.com DUE 3/24/14 @ 11:59 PM (TIINC)

VI. Begin reading Chapter 5 (The Interview) in your textbook. Complete a three-column chart for the chapter (blank forms can be found on schoology). DUE 3/28/14

 I. Review Chapter 1, 2, 3, and 4 topics/concepts. Read the outline, supplemental notes, and create study note cards. LEARN THE MATERIAL...DON'T MEMORIZE IT.*

*NOTE: Please review your chapter notes periodically. We are never 'done' with the chapter topics/concepts.

II. Study chapter vocabulary. In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [JV1]

III. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, steno pads, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

IV. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.

VI. Review AP (Associated Press) style rules and concepts. Read the style books, supplemental notes, and create study note cards. LEARN THE MATERIAL...DON'T MEMORIZE IT.*

IV. Consult the Times Tracks Interview Project list and write down your assigned interview subject. You can also copy down the name of the source (i.e. the person who recommended the person). Begin looking up information about your subject. In digging for information try answering these questions: (a) what is the person most famous for? (b) when (in the person’s life) would my interview take place? (c) what is the reason for my interview with this person? Type your responses to these questions in a pre-interview report. Check schoology for a model of the format. DUE 3/24/14 (ICC/TIINC)

V. Write a DETAILED story plan for the Issue #4 Script story that was assigned to you. This should conform to the standards presented on the format sheet. DUE 3/24/14 (ICC/TIINC)
