The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class

I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!
II.Obtain TWO recent news articles. These articles must be recent (i.e. no
older than 3 days). It must be clipped...PLEASE DO THIS BEFORE CLASS;
ARTICLES NOT LABELED OR POSTED NEATLY WILL RECEIVE A -2 PENALTY. NO OPINION PIECES OR MAGAZINE ARTICLES.

Familiarize yourself with this week's current events; a GRADED
Current Events Quiz (CEQ) will be administered SOON. Use the blog site
as a central hub for news and information! CEQ #8 is 10/18/12
IV. Review for the Quarter Exam (Chapter 1 Concepts); the exam will cover the majority of the terms, people, dates, and concepts featured on your Chapter 1 outline and notes. PLEASE REVIEW FOR THIS TEST.
V. Prepare to continue viewing the '9/11' documentary. You will be asked to take notes and respond to a collection of discussion questions in preparation for a whole class discussion seminar.
Begin working on the discussion questions for the 'JFK: Breaking the News' documentary. Here are the questions:
FILM ANALYSIS QUESTIONS (‘JFK:
Breaking the News’):
Students will view the PBS
documentary ‘JFK: Breaking the News’ and analyze the ways in which both
print and broadcast (radio and television) covered the 1963 assassination of
President John F. Kennedy. Students will address the following through
analysis, evidence, and commentary:
a.
Which form of media was most effective in its
coverage?
b.
What is the historical significance of the media’s
role as it covered this event?
c.
What were your general thoughts and impressions of
the event (and documentary)?
FILM ANALYSIS QUESTIONS (‘9/11’):
Students will view the
documentary ‘9/11’ and analyze the ways in which the filmmakers covered the
9/11 terrorist attacks. Students will address the following through
analysis, evidence, and commentary:
a.
What were your general thoughts and impressions of
the event (and documentary)?
b.
What is the historical significance of the media’s
role as it covered this event?
c.
Were the filmmakers effective in their coverage and
documentation of the event?
VI. Schedule time to watch the second presidential debate (on 10/16/12 @ 9 PM). You should take specific notes (obtain quotes from the candidates, questions you would ask, and write general observation notes).

Review Chapter 1 topics/concepts. Read the outline, supplemental notes,
and create study note cards. LEARN THE MATERIAL...DON'T MEMORIZE IT.*

II.
Study chapter vocabulary. In addition, students should prepare to work
on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words
nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates
post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are
encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [JV1]
III. Bring
Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, steno pads, paper,
pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
IV. You
should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes.
You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all
course policies and procedures.
